2004 Mitsubishi Outlander Major Features:
- 4 cylinder 2.4 Mitec Engine
- SUV body style
- 16" mag wheels
- Power windows, locks and steering
- Low price compared to other SUV's
- Fold down rear seats
My experience:
I bought the 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander new back in the beginning of 2004 -
right before they bumped the included warranty to 100,000 miles. Oh well.
This turned out to be a non-issue since I have not had any problems so far.
This was the first year of the Mitsubishi Outlander.
The Outlander gives a decent ride and minimal road noise. The 4 cylinder Mitec engine
is quite peppy. It has no problem accelerating onto the expressway. The brakes could be a
little more powerful but they are OK. It has had a recall for the radiator relay 3 times so far.
The Mistubishi dealers have done the repair at no cost and no hassles. I am waiting to see
if they are finally done with that. The recall claims the car could overheat. It has never happened
to my vehicle - even before the recall repair. The factory battery did quit after 2 years but
that isn't their fault. Gas mileage is around 21mpg. Not too bad for an SUV, but I was hoping
for around 25mpg.
2004 Mitsubishi Outlander Pros:
- Reliable thus far
- Decent ride quality
- Good power for a 4 cylinder
- Decent stereo/CD player
2004 Mitsubishi Outlander Cons:
- I want better gas mileage
- Recall on radiator fan relay
2004 Mitsubishi Outlander Spot Rating:
This SUV has not let me down so far. If it got better fuel economy, I would give it 5 spots.
