My experience:
I bought the Acer P244w 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor from Costco for $169.00.
I hooked it up via the DVI connection and set the PC to 1920x1080.
The first things I noticed where lack of color saturation and extremely bright.
I ended up turning the contrast down to 10 and the brightness to 50.
I also had to adjust the gamma settings in the ATI Catalyst control panel to .75, after that the color is decent
and can deliver a decent picture. The glossy frame does reflect unwanted light from the room.
It's not too annoying, but I prefer a non reflective frame finish. The viewing area does not reflect.
The quick response time is great. With my other Viewsonic Q22wb LCD monitor, scrolling causes a noticeable flicker.
With this monitor flicker is practically non-existent.
Acer P244w 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor Pros:
- Big
- Decent image (for a TN panel) once calibrated
- Fast response time
Acer P244w 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor Cons:
- Needs calibration to even think about being usable
- Text is thin
- Noticeable red color bleed in text with certain word patterns
- Glossy frame reflects room lighting
- Some backlight bleed in the center at the top edge and the bottom edge
Acer P244w 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor Spot Rating:
While this monitor can give a decent display, it must be calibrated.
Monitor manufacturers (and for that matter HDTV) should not be making glossy frames.
If you are really picky then this is not the monitor for you.
