AT&T/ATT Broadband DSL Service Major Features:
I currently have the AT&T 3/384 Broadband DSL service for $37.95/month. Other plans and speeds are available.

  • 3 megabit downstream speed
  • 384 kilobit upstream
  • 10 Free email addresses

My experience:
I tried to sign up online and their website said I could not get service. I called their customer service and they said the same thing. I told them my friend down the street has it. They said the computer says it's not available. Luckily I have a friend who works for them in the DSL install department. He was able to get in contact with someone who had diagrams of their DSL systems in my area. He told me there was a DSLAM right down the street and that I should be able to get 6 megabit speeds if I wanted. He placed an order (1.5/256 is what I wanted) for me so that I could get past their computer glitch. It was installed and working within a week. I did have to have them lock the sync rate to 1500/256 because they were syncing me at 6000/512 and I was getting CRC errrors and spuratic connectivity issues. About 6 months later, it quit working. Down the street some work was being done on some pipes and my phone line got cut. It was down for 7 days. I got credit for the downtime. I originally was using the ATT/Bellsouth DNS servers, but it seems they go down spuratically so I configured my router to use Verizons DNS servers. They have yet to give me any trouble. I have had this service for 3 years now and the service has been reliable except for the line cut which was not their fault. After my serious issues with Adelphia cable broadband, this service is good and reliable. I recently have dropped my voice service and upgraded to 3/384 service. So now it's 42.95/month but I removed the $33/month local phone service.

AT&T/ATT Broadband DSL Service Pros:

  • Good reliability
  • Available without local phone service
AT&T/ATT Broadband DSL Service Cons:
  • Too expensive
  • DNS servers unreliable

AT&T/ATT Broadband DSL Service Spot Rating:
I would give them 5 spots, but I feel that the pricing is still too high. I want to see sub $30.00 for this performance level.
