My experience:
I bought the Canon SX110IS together with a Panasonic TZ5 (See my Panasonic DMC-TZ5 Camera review here) so I could pick the best one. I tried the Canon first. I put in freshly charged 2650ma rechargeable batteries. It focuses fast and gets it right most of the time. Zoom works great and it takes good pictures outdoors at low ISO. After taking only 30 pictures the batteries went! OK, I put in two new Duracell AA Alkaline Batteries. The battery warning came on after only 15 photos! This has got to be the worst battery eater ever. I took some pics at from ISO 100 to ISO 1600 and looked at %100 views.
ISO 100 is good and sharp with a little bit of noise in dark areas.
ISO 200 has good detail, but the noise has started to increase - but still acceptable.
ISO 400 has started to show noise and loss of detail into areas that aren't all that dark.
ISO 800 has increased noise levels to where I don't even need to view at %100. There is still some detail left, but it will definitely need to be de-noised.
ISO 1600 has double the noise levels that 800 had - a 640x480 downsize is acceptable quality.
The images from the Canon aren't bad at the lower ISO settings. If the battery life wasn't so bad, I might have considered keeping it. I returned it the next day.

Canon SX110IS Digital Camera Pros:

  • Quick accurate focus
  • Good quality photos at lower ISO
  • Nice zoom capability
  • Optical Image Stabilization
Canon SX110 IS Digital Camera Cons:
  • Horrible battery use! You better buy stock in battery companies
  • Poor higher ISO performance - use that flash and keep the ISO 400 and below

Canon SX110 IS Digital Camera Spot Rating:
While this camera can take good photos outdoors and OK indoors with the flash, it's poor noise performance and ridiculus battery sucking makes it a poor choice.
