Insinkerator Garbage Disposer Badger 5 Major Features:
- 1/2 Horsepower motor
- Galvanized steel grind components
- Dishwasher drain connection
My experience:
I purchased the Insinkerator Badger 5 Food Waste Disposer a few years ago when the original Badger 5 Waste Disposer broke.
I had no idea how old the original Badger was 5 so I purchased the same one since it would fit nicely.
Installation was easy - it was the same unit so no surprises. I knocked out the plug for the dishwasher drain fitting and
hooked everything up the same way as the old unit.
It chops up food pretty well and does make a bit of noise but nothing that would bother me.
I don't put bones in the sink. Hard things that have accidently gotten in there
make a lot of noise and in some cases I have had to remove the item from the Insinkerator garbage disposer.
One time a lot of potato peels were put in there and the drain clogged up. I had to remove the drain pipe and suck out the potato peels
with a shop vacuum. A few years later the replacement Badger 5 had developed a small leak so
I have now replaced it with the Insinkerator Evolution Compact Garbage Disposer.
Insinkerator Badger 5 Garbage Disposal Pros:
- Easy installation
- Chops food up reasonably well
- Comes with needed parts to install
- Relatively inexpensive considering what's available
Insinkerator Garbage Disposer Badger 5 Cons:
- Lasts only a few years
- A bit noisy but not annoying
- Top casing is made of plastic
Spot Rating:
Obviously I would not buy the Badger 5 again since I have installed a more expensive Insinkerator Evolution model to replace it.
