Netflix video rental/streaming service Major Features:
- Unlimited online streaming through many devices
- Free shipping of the movie titles
- Convenient DVD movie rental right from home
My experience:
I signed up about a month ago for the $7.99 unlimited streaming and I also added the in mail option for $2 more so I could compare to Blockbuster's shipping.
So far shipping has been 2-3 day turn around where blockbuster has been 4-5 days.
The streaming image quality on my Sony BDP-S570 Blu Ray player is quite good.
I have 3.0 DSL speed and the video is close to standard DVD quality.
I have seen some artifacts but no worse than I have seen on Directv or Dish Network.
One issue I have had with the streaming service is they will have a cutoff date and remove it from streaming. My son got upset when he watched part
of a Scooby Doo movie and could not watch the rest of it the next day because they removed it.
I also experienced a 20 minute outage where the Netflix service was down.
Another complaint is the lack of subtitles on Blu Ray players - So far it appears to be available only on Sony PS3, Nintento Wii, and PC. I also believe the
number of titles including subtitles is also limited.
I have to admit the faster shipping speed of Netflix combined with Blockbuster's latest lack of available new titles by mail are making Blockbuster's
only redeeming factor - In store exchange - much less of an issue. I may end up cancelling Blockbuster totally.
Netflix video rental/streaming service Pros:
- Fast shipping
- Good selection of DVD movie titles
- Stream from most anywhere
- Website much faster than Blockbuster
Netflix DVD rental/streaming service Cons:
- No in-store exchange
- Lastest titles not available for streaming
- Streaming titles may change to unavailable even after you started watching the title
- Limited subtitle support - none on Blu Ray Players so far
Netflix video rental/streaming service Spot Rating:
While so far the service has been good, I knock off a spot due to the lack of the lastest titles being available for streaming.
