Nintendo Wii Gaming Console Review Major Features:
- 480p maximum resolution
- Built in WiFi
- Wireless motion sensing remotes (motion plus)
- Small box
- Built in CD player for apps
My experience:
I got this for my 5 year old for Christmas. I got the console, 1 motion plus controller, steering wheel and Mario Kart game
for $127 from Target. The included cable works with composite video and gives 480i resolution.
It actually is quite good on my old LG 42" 720p plasma.
I did buy a component cable that gives 480p and am using it but frankly the difference is very hard to distinguish.
My kid was able to figure out the operation within a few minutes.
It does take a little getting used to using the controller to point and select items as the pointer can wobble a bit.
I also bought Nintendo Selects Sports and Selects Galaxy and an additional remote so two players could use it.
Getting the Wifi was a bit of a hassle. I have my router secured by Mac address and encryption.
I was forced to change the router's wireless channel to channel 1 before it would connect. Strange but it worked.
I did come across one issue. I tried to use Netflix on it just to test it. I downloaded the Netflix app, and when trying to
run the app the app says I have no internet connection - What???? I just downloaded the app from the internet. I could not
get it to work so I removed the Netflix app.
Nintendo Wii Gaming Console Review Pros:
- Fun
- Quiet
- Lots of apps available
- Online connectivity
Nintendo Wii Gaming Console Review Cons:
- Max resolution of 480p
- No Blu Ray player - but with 480p what's the point of having it
- Comes with only one remote.
- Could not get Netflix to work
Spot Rating:
The Wii is a lot of fun. It's too bad it's not high definition like the PS3 and Xbox.
