Topic: Skype does not show after typing

Please help, skype window does not show after runnig: cd /siptosis  - xinit - skype &.
I have done this before maybe a year or so ago. But now I cannot manage to show skype client window in X window.
Some suggestions please.

What you are describing is not SipToSis related since you did not run any siptosis commands. Try Linux support or Skype support.

Hi Administrator,
What I meant by cd /siptosis  - xinit - skype & is that I tried to attach Skype to SipToSis. But instead of prompting Skype to show SipToSis is displaying the following:

Skype Status: NOT_RUNNING - retrying very 5 seconds

and after that it shows

Connect attempt limit reached - exiting
com.skype.NotAttachedExcertion

Otherwise I can see Skype4Java Version 1.20.1, javaVer 1.6.018, Available Codecs: PCMU...

The single channel siptosis start command (SipToSis_linux) does not start x or skype. You have to do it.
X should be started first. Start Skype, Start SipToSis.

If you can't start an X display or skype, it's a problem with X or skype.

1. You don't tell me linux distro
2. what happened when you tried startx?
3. what happened when you start skype?
4. Is Skype running and logged in or not?

If I have to pull teeth to get info, I'm not going to help - especially for free.

Why don't you use the stsTrunk_linux command? You only need to start X first.

Thank you, you are right I had to supply more info.

Here are the answers:

1. It is Linux distro Centos 5.5 with FreePBX 2.9

2. Startx works fine. It opens the graphical window

3. When I start Skype with "skype &" on the command line  window it shows [1] 4020 (for example) and when I hit "Enter" key it shows [1]+ Exit 127  skype.  But  I could not make Skype window pop up so that I could make sure it is running and to be able to login.

4. I think skype is running in the background but does not show in X and I cannot login.

How to make skype visible?

You are entering
skype &
From within the graphic window? If not, do so.

Are you using twm for the window manager?
If yes, follow procedure on this page:
http://www.mhspot.com/sts/sts_install_centos.html
Look for "On a Server twm will be used during the configuration process"

I have seen instances where the Skype config files are corrupt.
Delete the hidden /home/User/.Skype folder.
If you are using root, it's /root/.Skype
